The reason for the entire sheet having adhesive is two fold - cost and performance. Although you may think that a full adhesive sheet would be more expensive, that is untrue. If the sheet was half label and half plain paper, your printer would have a difficult time pulling the different layers through the print head causing mis-feeds as well as wasted paper and ink. Another possible situation is the heat and pressure in your printer may cause the adhesive to flow out of the edge that connects the two materials causing adhesive to gum up your printer components. The final issue is the cost of manufacturing two separate materials and blending them together. This decreases the overall material production speeds, increases waste, and reduces efficiencies in manufacturing. All of this leads to higher costs to the customer.
